Laughter Yoga can be a life changing exercise routine which anybody can practice anytime anywhere. We recommend participating in a group workshop because the more people involved the funnier it is.
Laughter Yoga combines unconditional laughter with yogic breathing (pranayama). Anyone can Laugh for No Reason, without relying on humor, jokes or comedy. Laughter is simulated as a body exercise within a group, containing eye contact and childlike playfulness which turns into a real and contagious laughter in no time.
The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on a scientific fact that because the body cannot tell the difference between fake and real laughter, a person will receive the exact same physiological and psychological benefits. You can fake your laugh until it turns into a real laugh and your body will not know the difference.
The goal of Laughter Yoga is to bring good health, joy and world peace through laughter. Laughter belongs to all human kind, it is universal with no language, age, gender, race, social backgrund or cultural barriers. Laughter during yoga laughter practice removes any instinctive barriers that may exist between people and breaks down any power struggles caused by ego and judgemental participant .
How laughter yoga began
Dr. Madan Kataria, from Mumbai, India, opened the first Laughter Club in 1995, with only a few participants. Since then it has become a worldwide phenomenon with more than 6000 social laughter Clubs in about 60 countries.
Clinical research on Laughter Yoga methods, has proved that laughter lowers the level of stress hormones (epinephrine, cortisol, etc) in the blood and contains a positive and hopeful attitude towards life. It is less likely for a person to become stressed and suffer feelings of depression/helplessness, if one is able to laugh away his troubles...
Laughter Yoga with Physically and Mentally Challenged
Laughter Yoga has made a major difference in the lives of many people with physical and mental disabilities. In fact, the introduction of Laughter Yoga for the mentally and the physically challenged has revealed a significant improvement in their motor and expressive skills. Laughter Yoga has also been introduced in many schools for the Blind, and among the deaf and mute to help them deal with their disabilities and generate a more positive attitude, that will help them enhance their wellbeing.
